contributes to the institution. The award Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) granted to İstanbul Aydın University is the primary indicator. Our university was placed the second in “Education Services” category, based on foreign currency inflow from international students at the end of “500 Major Turkish Exporters” survey conducted by the Turkish Exporters Assembly for the first time this year. This award reveals how important international students are both for universities and for the value added to country s economy and the world.
How do international students contribute to Turkish economy?
Today, the average annual foreign currency an international student leaves in a country is 40 thousand dollars. 5 million international students worldwide, make up a total of 200 billion dollars of share in the global economy. The number of international students in the world is expected to reach 7 million by 2020s. Turkey continues to make efforts to claim the share it deserves from international student market. İnternational students do not pay the entire 40,000 dollars to the university they study. For example, a student pays 15,000 dollars to the university, and the rest covers accommodation, retail shopping, entertainment, tourism, and health expenses. İn addition, students families visit the country in certain periods by way of students, and this boosts tourism. The presence of an international student in a country has direct and positive effects on various sectors. Then these people eventually return to their countries. When these students graduate, they return to their countries as honorary ambassadors of Turkey. İn a sense, the students who return to their native countries are important cultural envoys who would provide a correct account of Turkey. With regard to investment, there is a number of Turkish businessmen who have investments in numerous countries. Turkish businessmen invest in a variety of sectors in countries in question. When they invest in those countries, they employ individuals with various professions who studied in Turkey, as ready human resources. They speak Turkish, and are familiar with Turkish culture; moreover, they are natives of the country. Thus they play a key role in Turkish investors making healthier and more successful investments abroad.
