The name of Aleppo city was mentioned for the first time in Akkadian tablets.

18th Century B.C.

Aleppo became the capital of Yamhad Kingdom.

637

Islamic armies entered Aleppo through the Iron Gate in Antioch after making a pact with the locals.

962

Byzantine army besieged and conquered Aleppo. Byzantine soldiers pillaged and vandalized the city for a week.

1400

Timur attacked Aleppo and ravaged the whole city including city walls and the castle. Nearly 20 thousand were killed in three days of plunder.

August 28th 1516

Aleppo city entered Ottoman rule after Battle of Marj Dabiq.

1548

A Venetian consulate was opened in Aleppo. Later, both France and England opened consulates in Aleppo a few years apart.

October 23rd 1918

402 years of Ottoman rule ended.
