“When we look at Turkey’s design scene, a contradictory picture emerges. This is of course a good situation… Because innovative approaches and traditional positions are intertwined. Still, there are great efforts all in all. I think that the most original works of the world are produced in Turkey. More can always be achieved. It is a rich, productive, prolific environment… Moreover, Turkey is a very fertile region in terms of culture and politics, and most of time at an undesired level. Nevertheless, I believe that the boundaries of conceptual expression need to be pushed further. Certainly the biggest issue is knowledge. Us knowing that what we introduce as new may be ancient. In other words, knowledge and culture… Also contemporary art is a field open to mediocrity. We need to be aware of this threat.”
