World fair EXPO, organized in a different country each year since 1851 will be organized in Turkey for the first time in 2016. EXPO 2016 Antalya will begin in April and will be open for visit until October. The fair is based on the philosophy “A Green World for Future Generations”, and fair’s main theme was identified as “Flower and Child”. Envisioned with the slogan “Making Future Green”, fair focuses on concepts such as biodiversity, sustainability, and green cities. National and international congresses, panels, seminars and meetings will be organized throughout the fair as well as culture and art events. EXPO 2016 Antalya to be open half of year 2016, is expected to host eight million local and foreign visitors. EXPO 2016 Antalya Fair to become a permanent fair, will greatly contribute in Turkey’s tourism and promotional activities. 100,7 meters high EXPO Tower was selected as the monument for EXPO 2016 Antalya, a most important symbol of the city symbolizing historical Hadrianus Gate. Fairground featuring theme gardens, Children’s Island, Science and Technology Center for Children, Green Activity Field offering activities for children, EXPO Lake, a peonyshaped terrace which is fair’s symbol flower, EXPO Hill, EXPO Forest, EXPO Square and Culture and Arts Street will be hosting more than 100 participant countries and organizations. All the facilities established in Aksu district seven kilometers to Antalya airport, extend over an area of 1121 decares.
EXPO 2016 Antalya’s mascots are two children named Ece and Efe. EXPO Chairman of the Board and Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Mehdi Eker stated that they particularly selected children mascots and Turkish names which are easy to pronounce in other languages as well, and introduced the mascots in a meeting attended by numerous guests.
