Sufi Performance In Rome

Written by Hanife Çelik

THE GALATA MAWLAWI LODGE AND WHIRLING DERVISHES ASSEMBLY HAS
HELD A WHIRLING DERVISH (SEMA) PERFORMANCE AT THE FAMOUS
BRANCACCIO THEATRE IN ROME.

Mawlana, who is one of the most important figures in the history of Turkish Sufism, lived in Turkey and was a distinguished and notable Sufi thinker. Mawlawiyah, born from the thoughts of Mawlana is a prayer form of the Mawlawis reaching out to Allah through the act of whirling. The whirling performance (sema), which recently took place at the Brancaccio Theatre in the Italian capital Rome, was watched with interest by Italians as well and many people from the world. The sema performance held by the Galata Mawlawi Lodge and Whirling Dervishes Assembly, was held under the leadership of Nail Dede. The sema, which is considered to be a journey into the spiritual world, is considered by the UNESCO to be “a spiritual world heritage”.

THE CONFERENCE ON MAWLAWIYAH

A conference was held on April 9 by the Mawlana Rumi Association, at the Paris Eastern Languages and Civilisations Institute (INALCO) titled “Mawlana and Mawlawiyah”. Prof. Leili Anvar, who delivered a speech at this conference, which began with a Ney (reed flute) music recital, spoke of the love Mawlana defines within his work. She also read parts from the Masnawi and related stories.
