Although Sabahattin Ali is mostly known for his stories, he has become one of the most prominent authors in Turkish literature with his novels ‘Yusuf of Kuyucak’ and ‘The Devil Within Us’. ‘The Fur Coated Madonna’, which was the last published novel of the author in 1943, is amongst the five top bestsellers in Turkey. The novel has been translated into many languages like German, French, Russian and Arabic. The English translation is also expected to be published in early 2016. The reason for the translation of Sabahattin Ali´s novels into various languages according to the literary world is as follows: The author´s ability to narrate the complicated emotions of man´s spirit with a graceful language and attain universal standard in his efforts of doing so.
WHO IS SABAHATTIN ALI?
He was born in 1907. He graduated from the College of Education in 1926. He taught German in various Anatolian schools. In 2007, there were celebrations for the 100th year anniversary in his birth city Ardino, Bulgaria.
